This is about the incompatibility between the needs of the environment, and those of a consumer society. Here at the top, we have the earth as viewed from space. In front is a set of scales. The left hand scale has a leaf, and the right hand scale has a bag full of the products of a consumer society, i.e. a house, car, computer, airplane, etc. The exhaust from the aeroplane’s engines is shown as a giant spiral which when crossing the leaf causes it to burn up. Thus, modern lifestyles destroy the environment. I show the left scale holding the leaf as lower as I think that it is more important. I think that this could be thought of as a discussion painting. |
